Febrile Seizures
WHAT IT IS?

As far as we know,
Taylor experienced two febrile seizures, and we strongly suspect she had a third on the night she passed away. Both the urgent care doctors and her pediatrician assured us that febrile seizures are harmless, but we are not convinced.
The medical examiner confirmed that Taylor had RSV, rhinovirus, and parainfluenza 3 in her system. We firmly believe that these illnesses triggered the febrile seizure, which ultimately led to her passing.
ABOUT
Most febrile seizures produce no lasting effects. Simple febrile seizures don't cause brain damage, intellectual disability or learning disabilities, and they don't mean your child has a more serious underlying disorder.
Febrile seizures are provoked seizures and don't indicate epilepsy. Epilepsy is a condition characterized by recurrent unprovoked seizures caused by abnormal electrical signals in the brain.
What to Look For

Spike In Fever
Loss Of Consciousness
Tremors
We were told that it isn't necessarily how high the fever gets but how quickly it shoots up that causes the seizure.
Eyes rolling back in their head, going limp, turning blue, were all things we experienced with Taylor's seizure
Just like a seizure you see on TV, Taylor shook and went rigid.
Fever Medicine Helps -
But It Doesnt Prevent Seizures
Giving your child infants' or children's acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others) at the beginning of a fever may make your child more comfortable, but it won't prevent a seizure.
